Certain women love me?

p-801-601-3cc900df-9b9e-4109-9c83-afcf74421e54.jpegSo in the fear of not sounding politically incorrect I wrote “certain women love me” as the title. But in truth, I have had a number of incidents occur that support my observation that for some unexplainable reason Black middle aged women seem to have an affinity toward me. I used to joke about it with friends thinking it mere coincidence but now I am beginning to believe that it’s something more than biased observation. Like when you buy a red car and all of a sudden you start noticing tons of red cars that you hadn’t before noticed.

Ill let you be the judge. Here are a few incidences that happened recently:
2) I’m at the postal office applying for a passport. The black women at the counter is giving everyone hell and a lot of attitude. I am dreading having to speak with her. be yet front. The moment I walk up to the counter she is sassy but overly warm. And when she takes my photo she goes out of her way to show it to me and retakes it multiple times until she gets one that she says “looks nice.”
2) I am alone in the elevator at work when the elevator stops and a jovial Black women walks in. The doors have barely closed an she exclaims, “you have gorgeous teeth!” being that she did as well I returned the compliment and then we carry I. A short discussion a out being fortunate to have good teeth without having to use corrective technologies.
3) One the plain two kids were bickering. Their grandma turns to me chuckles and says “their siblings. Can you tell?” I laugh and respond, “I have four younger siblings. I know all about it.”
4) Today while browsing the shirts at an Austin thrift store a women turns the corner and goes, “Boy you have beautiful hair! Want to trade?” I laugh and say,”I don’t think I could pull yours off!” She laughs, “sure you could just braid it up into corn rows.”

I think I am averagely handsome, but def not modle quality. And no one else gives me random compliments…

Saturday in Williamsburg

by admin on May.05, 2009, under My Life, NYC Adventures

Wanting to get out for the day Darren and I headed to Williamsburg on Saturday. We shopped at thrift stores. Well actually it would be more accurate to say I shopped while Darren was a good sport and would periodically browse the racks looking for stuff I might like. They were probably some of the best thrift stores I have been to and I found a

handful of items. Being vegetarian I try not to buy leather so when I can find second hand leather shoes I feel it’s a good compromise.

The area was full of small cafes and restaraunts. We spotted one in a rooftop and after checking out the brunch menu decided to stay. It is seriously times like this where I question if any city can rival NYC (well at least any US city.)
